The following instructions outline the setup process for Stunnel + OpenVPN connections on Windows 10:
1. Download Stunnel client from this link.
2. Install Stunnel client
- Right-click on downloaded file and choose “Run as Administrator”
Click“I Agree”
Choose “Install for anyone using this computer”
Don’t changing anything here
Choose directory for install Stunnel
In the end of install, it will open new console window. You can input any information to these fields. It doesn’t matter and don’t have any affect to your connection.
Don’t mark “Start stunnel after installation, just click “Finish”
3. Download OpenVPN GUI from this link. For Windows(Vista and later) you can download openvpn-install-2.4.3-I602.exe
Right-click on downloaded file and choose “Run as Administrator”
Click “Next”
Click “I Agree”
Don’t changing anything here
Choose folder for install OpenVPN GUI
- It can ask for agree to install TAP-adapter. You need to confirm it.
4. Install configuration
- Download Stunnel configurations from this link
- Right-click on downloaded archive and extract it to stunnel folder
- IMPORTANT NOTE: Please make sure that all files were extracted not in C:/Program Files(x86)/stunnel/ but in separate folder: ( in this example C:/Program Files(x86)/stunnel/ehi-stunnel-configs/ )
- Copy file localhost to OpenVPN GUI config folder (in this example C:/Program Files/OpenVPN/config)
- Copy stunnel config (in this example USA-California CONF file) to Stunnel config folder
5. Run Stunnel
- Right-click on Stunnel batch file and choose “Open”
- Be sure that Stunnel is running (icon will be green)
6. Connect to VPN
- Right-click on OpenVPN GUI and click “Connect”
- Input your Username and Password
Wait until connection successfully established. You will see this notify, when connection established.
Please note that IP address you see is not public, you can check your public ip via service like ipinfo.io
Now you are connected to VPN and your activity in Internet hide from anyone. Enjoy.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you connected and then want to change server, you need to DISCONNECT from OpenVPN (right-click on icon and choose Disconnect), then run another Stunnel .batch file (5.1 step) and connect to OpenVPN again.
